Assicurazioni Generali UK is the United Kingdom branch of Generali, Italy’s largest insurance company. With head offices in Trieste, Italy, the Generali Group as a whole is Europe’s third-largest insurer, with gross premiums for 2006 totalling over €62bn. The group is also an official supplier to the Italian national football team, winners of the 2006 FIFA World Cup trophy.

As an important constituent part of the wider Generali group, it is important for Assicurazioni Generali UK to manage not only its own employees, assets and information, but also that of its customers in conjunction with information from other branches of the wider Generali group, all whilst keeping abreast of the latest developments in the insurance market.

Bringing such a large and varied amount of data together in one place presents a number of significant challenges for any organisation, and so it became important for Assicurazioni Generali to find the appropriate tools that would allow them to encompass all information on a business-wide basis.

Armed with this knowledge, Assicurazioni Generali UK entered into discussion with Orchid Software to define how Orchidnet could help them achieve their aims. It was suggested that the most appropriate intranet would be Orchidnet PRO, on the basis that the wide range of functionality provided by the Optional applications would accommodate all of the specified requirements.

Implementation and content population followed, and the intranet went live in December 2006, since which it has been an extremely positive addition to Assicurazioni Generali UK’s operations.
