Grainger plc is the UK’s largest quoted residential property investor. Founded in 1912, the company floated on the stock market in 1983 with gross assets of £18m and pre-tax profits of £0.7m. Today, with offices throughout the UK, the company has over 12,000 directly owned and managed property units, gross assets of £1.5bn and a market capitalization of around £500k.
Being a forward thinking organization, with offices in diverse geographical locations needing access to the same information, Grainger Trust saw the installation of an Intranet as the answer to their information management requirements. However, the company also recognised the potential for online administration that an Orchidnet provides and so, following a series of discussion with Orchid Software, the decision was taken to develop an Orchidnet personnel module to assist with Human Resources administrative duties.
The personnel module will include a range of powerful features to help streamline business practice and provide Grainger Trust’s Human Resources department with a range of valuable tools with which to refine their operations. The centerpiece of the module is a dynamic Holiday Planner that automatically calculates, manages and assigns staff leave and holidays via the Intranet, allowing individual employees to apply for leave without the possibility of clashes, short-staffing or any other typical administrative issue.
Installation occurred in June 2005, and the Intranet went live in September 2005, since when it has been a great asset to Grainger plc. The company is currently working with Orchid Software to enhance their intranet, with a new version scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2007. |
