Introduction
Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK is the largest company in the North-East of England. The company achieved a turnover of 2.1 billion pounds from 1997-1998 and currently employs over 5000 people. The Nissan plant in Sunderland has been voted the most efficient car plant in Western Europe.
The Problem
As part of their ISO 14000 Environmental Registration, Nissan wanted to ensure their employees could easily obtain information on the effective disposal of waste materials used in the production of their motor vehicles. They needed a system that allowed a database of over 3000 products and substances to be maintained centrally, but also allow instant access by those on the shop floor.
Goals and Objectives
Items searched using either names or aliases
Allow information to be easily modified and published
Lower operating costs by reducing administration
Easy to learn and simple to use
Utilise existing hardware and software
Users easily provide paperless feedback
Nissan worked closely with Orchid Software in building an Intranet solution tailored to meet their needs. The end result was a revolutionary solution that:
Increases business productivity
Provides critical information throughout the company
Reduces costs due to a decrease in paper trail
Reduces work redundancy
