With roots stretching back to 1839 - possibly the first police force to come into existence – Norfolk Police is one of Britain’s best known police forces. The force is responsible for a wide range of services as diverse as forensic investigation, air operations and child protection along with general policing duties across an area that spans from Great Yarmouth to West Walton.
Managing risk is a regular daily occurrence for Norfolk Police employees, internally as well as externally, making it vital that the force has the appropriate tools to perform the task. Risk management is a specialised field, so it was important for Norfolk Police to find an established, proven system with a track record of managing risk in a comparable environment.
Orchid Software’s Orchidnet-based Risk Register had been managing risk for Sussex police since 2005, with such success that the trade periodical Strategic Risk featured a glowing review of the system within Sussex Police in the same year. Norfolk Police were aware of the application’s success, and contacted Orchid Software to discuss potential implementation within their premises.
Discussions confirmed that Orchidnet would provide the same comprehensive risk management functionality to Norfolk Police that is currently used in the Sussex Police installation, allowing the force to record, manage and assign risks online, including revision, reference and user assignment facilities.
Implementation started in late 2006 and the Norfolk Police installation went live in January 2007. |
