The Problem
The stringent Health and Safety regulations governing modern business practice require companies to provide their employees with a risk-free, secure working environment. Any company employing more than 5 people is legally obliged to carry out regular workplace risk assessments, with failure to perform these assessments or inability to comply with regulations leading to disciplinary or legal action on both corporate and civil levels.
Northern Rock’s Health and Safety policy typically includes an annual assessment for each of their 5000 personnel, and additional assessments in the event of changes in their working environment. However, the administration and paperwork involved with such an important process quickly becomes costly, repetitive and time-consuming.
The Solution
Orchid Software developed a totally automated solution that conducts the entire assessment procedure online, taking care of administration duties and eliminating the need for paperwork. The system alerts individual employees when they are due to take an assessment, during which individuals watch interactive Flash - based presentations to bring them up to date with health and safety issues and regulations. Each employee can complete the subsequent risk assessment online, with any issues of non-conformance automatically routed to the relevant manager via Orchidnet to ensure that the appropriate action is taken.

The Results
