Co-ordinating more than 23,000 students over four different campuses is no mean feat, but it is all in a day’s work for staff at the University of Wolverhampton. As the first UK university to be awarded the Charter Mark for excellence in customer service, Wolverhampton’s staff have a reputation for their ability to provide effective administration for their range of alumni, research institutes and state-of-the-art contemporary learning facilities.
In keeping with its high-tech approach to learning facilities, that includes an E-Innovation Centre for startup businesses, a Technology Centre for 3D modelling and product design and the WOLF (Wolverhampton Online Learning Framework) virtual learning environment, the university has opted for intranet implementation as the most effective way to streamline internal communications and staff operations; the software will be rolled out initially within the School of Applied Sciences, with a view to subsequent further expansion within the university environment.
By opting for a staged rollout, University of Wolverhampton staff will use the School of Applied Sciences to establish the best operational fit between their intranet and their internal operations, and their IT staff are working closely with Orchid Software to ensure the best fit possible.
The implementation process is currently at the planning stage.
Dr Kevin Hogan, Associate Dean for the School of Applied Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton, said “Orchidnet Pro provides the School of Applied Sciences with the technology base from which to continue our development of a sophisticated electronic and service based approach to supporting our 2,000 staff and students.”
Ajay Sood, Managing Director of Orchid Software, said “We are delighted to be working with the University of Wolverhampton. Their progressive attitude towards adopting new technologies, combined with the scope of the administration involved in running the university, makes installing an intranet the ideal way to streamline and enhance their internal operations.”
